Family Photography in Queenstown
A Day with the TY Family: A Custom Queenstown Adventure
Playing tour guide in my hometown is one of my favourite things to do, and it was a pleasure to show the TY family around Queenstown. They had travelled from the Philippines, marking their first visit to New Zealand, so I crafted a special tour that combined some of my favourite photography spots with an unforgettable experience.
Morning Adventure
I picked the TY family up from their Queenstown hotel, and we started our day with a thrilling helicopter flight. We soared from Queenstown to Coromandel Peak with Heliworks, taking in the breathtaking views of the stunning New Zealand landscape.
The early morning was tranquil and magical as we flew from Queenstown to Coromandel Peak. Our flight took us over the stunning landscape of Lake Hayes, its surface perfectly reflecting the surrounding mountains. We passed alpine huts and backcountry stations, including the scenic estate once owned by Shania Twain. Below, we spotted winding rivers carving through canyons and the snow-capped peaks of the Southern Alps.
As we approached Wanaka, the charming town came into view, with its picturesque lake dotted with islands. We saw hikers making their way up Roy’s Peak, a reminder of the region’s natural beauty and adventure. Finally, we landed on Coromandel Peak, where we had the entire panoramic view to ourselves, except for a few curious sheep. The sense of isolation and tranquillity at the top was the perfect end to our awe-inspiring flight.
The inversion layer of clouds, which is quite rare, added a dramatic touch to the already spectacular surroundings, making the view from the top of Coromandel Peak truly unforgettable. For the TY family, this was their first helicopter experience, and we captured some memorable photos of both the flight and the iconic Coromandel Peak view. It was the perfect way to kick off their New Zealand adventure.
Afternoon Exploration
After our exhilarating morning, we spent the afternoon exploring some of the most picturesque spots in the Queenstown area. We began by wandering through Arrowtown, a charming historical village with well-preserved buildings and a rich history. From there, we continued to Bob’s Cove, known for its serene beauty and breathtaking views.
Our journey then took us to Moke Lake, a tranquil spot surrounded by rugged mountains, ideal for capturing the essence of New Zealand’s wild landscape. Finally, we made our way to Glenorchy, one of my favorite locations, where we enjoyed stunning views and a bit of local flavour.
We made a special stop at a local bakery to savour a famous meat pie—an essential New Zealand experience. At the Glenorchy farm, we had the delightful experience of meeting some friendly local sheep, adding an extra layer of fun and connection for the whole family. It was a wonderful way to end the day, creating lasting memories and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
