Dean & Bec

Love Story:

Even though Dean and Bec have known each other since primary school, it wasn’t until a Bachelor and Spinsters Ball “rescue operation” that they finally saw the sparks, and the rest was history. Bec thought Dean was a bit on the wild side, a bit of a party animal from afar but also always thought that he was very good-looking. After an awkward “Are we dating?” question and a night together spent in swag on the back of Dean’s Ute at the BNS.L, the couple has now bought and renovated their first home, purchased another home, travelled around Queensland for 6 months, expecting their first baby in December, and has been together for almost a decade.

On the day:

Dean and Bec have always been adventurers at heart, and while on a camper van adventure exploring New Zealand, they decided to elope last-minute and make their relationship official. Tying the knot here was the best choice, they decided, since Bec was already pregnant and they wanted to take advantage of the breathtaking scenery Queenstown has to offer. Little did Bec know, Dean has organized to fly their best friends from Queensland to their wedding as a surprise.

Before the ceremony, we set up an arch with florals by Bespoke Weddings and Events at Jack’s Point, and the stunning florals were perfect on the field of grass and against the amazing Remarkables mountain range as a backdrop. Bec drove up in her camper van and we made her face away from us while we set up the ceremony area. When we were ready for her and asked her to turn around, her friends were standing there waiting to surprise her. Ellita Thomas gave a beautiful ceremony, with lots of laughter and filled with fun, casual and heartwarming moments. After the ceremony, we took some group shots, taking advantage of the gorgeous Jack’s Point view.

Then, all of us jumped in the camper vans and drove up to Deer Park Heights (where Lord of the Rings was filmed!), and we saw little baby pigs, donkeys and ducks so we got off and played with them for a while. After playing with the adorable animals, we drove up to the very top of the mountain, just in time for golden hour. Even though it was getting moody and the sky beginning to overcast, the light was beautiful and the sunset was breathtaking. We popped some champagne and took photos of the couple at the mountaintop as well as some fun ones in the camper van. It was such an amazing day with the group! Dean and Bec’s love story is a reminder that a perfect awkward scenario may be the prologue to an enchanting love story full of adventure and surprises.
