Danny ‘s Surprise Helicopter Proposal
Okay, grab your tissues. I am about to tell you about the cutest surprise proposal story that I was lucky to be a part of.
Nicole and Danny came all the way from the states to Queenstown, New Zealand for a short break before heading to Australia to meet friends. Danny had it all sussed out having spoken to me months before, meticulously planning a surprise proposal, Nicole had no idea.
They met in New York City through a friend, an Instagram message later they had their first date that unfortunately went wrong. Nicole had an early meeting the next day, left early and poor Danny thought she hated him. However, Nicole redeemed herself on the second date, they even found out their Hamptons holiday homes were bang next door to each other. After accepting a job in San Francisco six months into dating they packed their bags and knew instantly that this move would cement their love and long-lasting relationship.
The holiday was booked, the helicopter was booked (unbeknown to Nicole) and I sat nervously in the reception area with my friend posing as tourists. We watched it all unfold, Danny surprised Nicole with an ‘early Christmas present’ and they sat excitedly waiting for our chopper to arrive. A few looks and sly thumbs up between Danny and myself, confirming that everything was going to go swimmingly, we waited. Nicole lent forward and asked if we had been in a helicopter before, we turned on our best Oscar performances and posed as excited tourists heading into the mountains for the first time.
The Heli arrived and we all jumped in, Danny, myself and my friend in the back. Nicole upfront soaking in all the views. The day was a little cloudy, so the ledge was out of bounds, but we headed toward Cecil Peak and landed a little lower, looking down over Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu. I quickly typed on my phone “give us a min” so we could head away from the lovebirds and Danny could get in position.
And just like that, Danny was down on one knee, telling the love of his life how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Nicole was shocked, hands to mouth, holding back the tears and of course saying that all important YES!
After Nicole realised, we were in on the whole thing she screamed with excitement. It was magical, the surprise couldn’t have worked better and the bottle of bubbles from the pilot topped it off. We hung around on the mountain taking photographs and celebrating their love before boarding the chopper and escorting this newly engaged couple back to base.
Thank you for letting me be part of your love story, congratulations and Danny, you did good!
