New Zealand Pre-Wedding Photography

Alison + Dom Lake Erskine & Earnslaw burn pre-wedding photos

A helicopter ride with four of their best friends (& me there to capture it all) to visit some of New Zealand’s most breathtaking scenery was on the cards for Dom + Alison’s pre-wedding photography trip to New Zealand. As far as pre-wedding photoshoots go this one was right up there.
We started the day bright and early with some couples portraits in the long yellow grass on the hillside of Kelvin Heights before joining the couple’s friends for the flight up to Lake Erskine.
Our flight departed Heliworks in Queenstown and we made our way across Lake Wakatipu and over the Southern Alps towards Fiordland. On the way, we flew over many tar, wild deer, alpine lakes, and the famous Route-burn hiking track. As we drew closer to Lake Erskine we saw a waterfall tumbling down from the lake into the valley far below, what a welcome!!!
Our friendly pilot Kurt expertly landed us right by the sparkling turquoise waters of Lake Erskine and we jumped out ready to explore. At once several friendly Kea’s (New Zealand native alpine parrot) came over to us. These little guys are so inquisitive, it was so cool to get up close and personal with them.
Dom, Alison, and I went off by ourselves to make the most of the 45 minute landing time while their friend’s Amber, Joel, and Joe enjoyed a pre-packed picnic of cheese, crackers, and chocolates.
The 45-minute photo shoot flew by and we were soon called back to the chopper ready to fly to our next destination, Earnslaw Burn which is in a valley full of yellow grass, surrounded by sheer granite cliffs with the Earnslaw Burn Glacier high above.
It is a film location from the famous LOTR Hobbit movies.
There are several different landing spots within the valley floor, Dom decided he would like the chopper to land further back from the glacier so we could take in the entire scene, so we landed right by a crystal clear river with the glacier in the distance.
We finished our pre-wedding shoot on a high and ended the day with a BBQ and drinks to celebrate our new friendship and the fabulous day we’d had.
